For employees who have switched between these two giants describe who you switched to and how thats worked out for you by choosing an option in the poll.
Interesting results so far. I wonder why theres so many going from ms to amzn. Always thought it would be the opposite
Many ppl left ms for amzn and then left amzn for other companies within a couple of yrs. amzn is just not a good employer for many.
Amazon's 2-year vest doesn't help. Amazon is in the "jangle the keys" mode, desperate to keep people's attention off their organizational and operational gaps.
Amazon is growing more, so they're hungrier and spending cash. I've heard stories from all sides of this question. Some people love their move (in either direction), some people hate it. To be successful in a big company, though, you have to stick around. If you're just wanting to put in your time, then by all means move. If you want to move way up and get some real responsibility, probably best to move around within your current company. Of course there are exceptions. Best to look at your specific situation.
How does moving around in the same company help you get more responsibility?
In order of responses: M>A + High Capacity Performers A>M + High Potential Performers M>A - Slackers?? A>M - Slackers / culture shock. ?? ????
its not surprising. more go to amazon net because of growth. but proportionally people happier at ms because less cut throat.
Same. That's why I moved over from Amazon for sure
After I finish this year, I think I might try to hop to MS or Google. I'm really exhausted of ruthless businesspeople and cutthroat politics
IMO, I got a lot of responsibility very early on in my career at Amazon, and that led to WAY more learning than I thought I'd ever get. Whatever success i reaped from my first project cemented me into a role where I can take on projects I find interesting if I can deliver, and a lot of that has to do with earning trust and really thinking deeply about leadership principals. I first thought the LPs were BS but they actually aligned my actions with my peers, and it's good that everyone believes in basic tenants at a big, fast moving company. I don't think this is the only way to run a company, and I don't think I'm learning much in terms of quality as much as quantity at Amazon (part of a new initiative team, so we learn as we go rather than learning proven methods from a successful products). However, I think for an early career move, Amazon is great and I couldn't really have asked for better support after learning the ropes for the first few months
Completely agreed!
MS is too slow in comparison to AMZN. Complete waste of time. Ended up moving to a startup.
