Android users: how do you cope with the loss of Twilight drawing permissions over the notification area?

It's been over a year since Google pulled the app permissions that had allowed Twilight to draw over the notification area. Anyone who is averse to bright light knows what I'm talking about. Do how have you been coping with that at night? I use Night light + Grayscale + Twilight but it still doesn't work like the earlier Twilight. Anyone has better ideas? Generally Google has been known to leave something on the table and not be so arrogant. But succeed they forced this change thorough my sleep quality never kinda recovered. Not sure if it's privacy/competition/whatever they fucked up on this one.

I love Twilight and turn it off when o have to do something that triggers the "draw over other apps" thing. It is priceless and I also use Flux on my home computer.
