Annual leave during notice period

I'm about to resign from my current company and the company has a clause in the contract where accumulated annual leave will not be paid out when an employee resign.

I'm wondering if annual leave can be used during notice period? If so, should I apply for the leave before giving notice or after? I'm thinking of using my leaves for the end of my notice period to shorten it.

The issue with this is that it ends up colliding with my new starting date

A company that holds your earned compensation like that doesn’t deserve notice. Take leave then shorten your notice period as much as needed.

@Op it’s pretty clear that you have to take your leave first and then give notice.

Definitely don’t give the notice before leaving, like salesforce suggested, just shorten your notice
