Another Uber Exec quits: Chief Product Officer

https://www.recode.net/2018/5/17/17366882/uber-jeff-holden-flying-car-leaving Daniel + Jeff are both out in a short time frame. Not a great sign when your product leaders jump ship.

Is this a question or just a statement because we can all read recode ourselves

Can you answer them though?

Uber uYXX25 May 17, 2018

Good riddance to them both.

...I mean they hit their 4 years so all their stock is vested and they get to keep that when they leave

Expedia YeetCode May 18, 2018

They get equity every year. Vesting never ends.

Uber Pjufcsh May 18, 2018

Yeah, but the new equity is peanuts compared to the old equity. Jeff is the kind of guy that establishes something and then hires enough talent for it to be self sustainable and no longer in need of his talents. He established ATG then moved on to Uber AI and Elevate. Those will likely be all consuming big bold bets that we won’t be doing anymore soon that are existential. If I were in his shoes, I would go somewhere else where I could go back to planting seeds for the future. He’s like Johnny Appleseed for technology.

Can Tali quit? Please?

Uber Pjufcsh May 18, 2018

Is Tali the terrible CPO at Lyft I’ve heard nothing good about?

Uber AtAllCost$ May 18, 2018

Anyone who is familiar with Uber’s workings knows Jeff had nothing to do with anything aside from Elevate for the past couple years. Sucks to lose a visionary leader, but no impact to the rest of the business. He backfilled himself recently too with a head of Elevate, so not that big of a deal. Dara prob needed to free up the CPO title to get the right candidate to truly lead product.

Uber evve May 18, 2018

This post 100%. Definitely a visionary leader but Jeff had been setting up his leave for a while. Hit 4 years 1 month and took the equity. Despite the CPO title, Jeff was running Special Projects and had a fraction of the reports that VP of Product has. This should have little impact on anything outside of Elevate. Tbh, thank you Jeff for minimizing the wake of your leave.
