Any 0.5x'ers here who ended up "making it"?

i just graduated with no offers. resume is lackluster, only secured final round interviews at amazon, google, and jane street out of 300+ applications sent, all of which i failed. i think i could have gotten more interviews but i only started applying in december 2018 since i was working 30 hours a week on top of 4 classes at school. i went to one of the top 5 cs colleges, and im confident im better than most applicants from some no name shitstain school in the midwest, but compared to ppl from my school and similar schools, im a .5xer at best. planning on spending the next 3 months grinding out LC and reviewing course material to apply early next hiring cycle. not sure what i should do since im feeling pretty overwhelmed. any other 0.5xers who got their shit together share their experiences?

you're not really in a position to talk shit about midwest schools when you graduated without any offers lmao, sit down and be humble.

let me rephrase, i had a return offer from a large business enterprise company but the work and comp were relatively terrible to other stuff in the bay, so i turned it down. i could always fall back on it if things dont end up working out in the next few months, but this is more about productivity and mentality than getting a job.

Lmao how do you go to a top 5 cs school but can't land a job. Who's the real shitstain

so you would rather be unemployed than be employed with a less competitive base and a less interesting scope of work? LOL😂

i wouldnt be improving myself if i took the return offer and it would get in the way of me actually working on something that would improve my skillset. basically a few minor feature changes on outdated software over the course of a year, and a lot of inefficient meetings and monotonous qa work. for 60% tc of what most people can expect from a good entry level job.

Actually I did that. I choose to pursue learning at that time.

Graduate from shitstain Midwest Univ here. News flash: nobody cares where you went to school. Yes maybe it matters in business/finance or other disciplines, but in tech it hasn't mattered one bit for me. Sorry you racked up a bunch of student loans for nothing 🤷‍♂️

in state so not a lot of loans, would you say many ppl from ur school got offers to amazon?

Microsoft jYaE43 May 31, 2019

What public school (because you mentioned in state) gives you such a high opinion of yourself?

Microsoft kbsbkxb May 31, 2019

Graduated CS from what you would, I'm sure refer to as a shitstain public university. Parent during school, full time job, 15-18 hours a semester, president's list. Worked my butt off because I knew it mattered. And I did interview prep on top of it. I have a job and have zero issues developing algorithms, white boarding or communicating in an interview to nab multiple offers. Even right out of college. At this point, you have zero right to be such an elitist prick. You are definitely below most candidates regardless where they went to school.

yes and i did not work my butt off which is why i posted. r u just mad i called midwest shitstain schools bad or do u rly think ur the rule, not the exception.

Microsoft kbsbkxb May 31, 2019

Considering that Microsoft, Google, Facebook, etc hire from grads at my school, I'd venture to say good hires is typically the rule. We rarely ever have someone not have a solid offer from a top company before graduation. Someone like you is generally the person who rode on the coattails of their classmates just to pass, at my university. Not mad at all, but you have mega issues you should work through.

You should have taken the job offer

youre probably right, just dont know if i have the mental capacity at the moment to work on top of spending time outside of work to properly work on myself since i barely got through school with grades i was satisfied with when i was working. currently gradually building up to studying 6-8 hours a day on various topics and getting in 1-2 hours of exercise and getting in the habit of doing cs to actively improve my skills rather than when i "have" to.

Amazon Cducs May 31, 2019

Wow you’re in for a life of pain if you chose this industry and don’t want to spend non-work time to improve yourself. I mean there are plenty of jobs out there like that, probably the offer you turned down. All of the tech companies are going to require that if you want to succeed.

Oracle pzd May 31, 2019

OP I have a feeling that being 0.5xer among your cohort is the least of your problems. Please work a little on your attitude, and learn how to write well and communicate effectively. Just to reiterate, I don't think you are a 0.5xer. Address the real problem.

Microsoft megamanX May 31, 2019

“Shitstain midwest schools”... yeah, like Chicago, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan, Washington St Louis, Wisconsin, Minnesota and many others 🤣🤣🤣 And since I work at Microsoft, I’ll tell you right now that us “shitstains” make up a large chunk of employees Have fun flipping burgers

Amazon hot 🍞 May 31, 2019

Man, I would never hire this guy, what a stupid piece of shit.

Apple xUEdsjT May 31, 2019

Pay attention hiring managers, don't hire people like this. 0.5x'er, slacks off, makes shitty excuses, insults people and schools, can barely write coherent sentences. Yet still feels entitled to a top 1% TC because of his school name. Clear mental issues.

No he almost certainly failed the coding. All those interviews and no offer? He's just aiming too high.

Why are college grads with no jobs allowed on Blind? That’s what I wanna know. I thought Blind was for professionals..
