Any advice, mentoring or referrals appreciated

Looking to break into tech sales. Been selling real estate successfully for 5-6 years and ready for a change for the future.

Recently affected by layoff and am having trouble gaining traction on my search.

Probably goes against my best interest but I'd work for less than my earning potential to break into field.

How did you get your start? Any advice or referrals of places hiring.

You can either apply for BDR/SDR/DGR roles which you’ll likely get pretty easily, or take your shot at some SMB AE gigs

BDR/SDR at most places is paying $80k+ OTE, DGR at AWS is paying $120k+, SMB AE is usually $100k-$135k OTE

    • Thanks for the reply! I'd be satisfied with the sdr to break into industry. Lower than my previous 5 year earnings but gotta start somewhere.

I would shoot for DGR at AWS, or an SDR/BDR role at a good late stage startup or post IPO company. The more complex/technical solution the better off you will be down the road and you will get better training there

Typically you’ll be prospecting and setting meetings for AEs to create new opportunities. You’ll likely spend 12-18 months in that role before you’ll be able to be promoted to a full cycle or closing role and once you have that promotion the tech sales world opens up a little bit more and you’ll have higher comp. SMB AEs/inside sales reps typically make $110-135k total before stock if any, mid market would be the next level up typically making $140-$200k total, enterprise would be $200-350k total comp before stock and sign on, then key or strategic making $300-400k total comp

I can’t offer a referral and I’m sure actual sales people will reply but I’ve heard great things about Aspireship as a way to learn about tech sales. Also, there are spreadsheets with opportunities for Better employees floating around on LI! The silver lining with a high profile layoff like Better is that the community seems to rally behind those impacted.

    • Thanks for the reply. Thanks for the tip on the spreadsheet. I'll track them down and look into ASPIRESHIP

My pleasure. Best of luck. I also find that more sales types hang out on Fishbowl and the Sales subreddit if you are into anonymous apps
