Headed into an onsite for FireTV teams at Amazon. Any reputation internally? Red flags? Mostly concerned w/work life balance TC: 🥜
Terrible org led by one of the worst VPs in devices. All of the good people have left and the ones who are left are just trying to hang on to get promoted or absorb other people’s teams who leave for empire building. Id stay far away if you have a choice.
Isn’t the company or the tech department aware of it? If it has such a loud reputation, why wouldn’t it take any action?
It’s amazon. Bad orgs are more the norm than the exception.
Which location is this about?
Most of the FireTv team in india comes under Chennai based Managers and damn they are technically Handicaped still they over commit to leadership and that's where the SDE's life become hell.My advice is not to Join FireTv team.Work is not challenging enough things are already built.PM and SDM's are just justifying their jobs by doing small experiments and codebase is too much old and complex so that is took sde soul to replicate the experiment with code. Most of the work here is adhoc(like pipeline infra related things, shephard risks etc.) and maintaining shitty codebase work

Are we ready to buy our forever home?
I worked there a few years ago, and stay in touch with a handful of engineers. Stay away if you have a choice. VERY political with bagstabbing managers. All the engineers left so it’s just churning through new grads and people who don’t know any better. One of the principals is very difficult to work with and drove out an entire team of 5 people literally. Happy to expand on what I’ve heard.
It’s one of the only orgs that I routinely hear awful things from. Aka the DumpsterFireTv
yikes, i’ll definitely keep that in mind. thanks!
