Found only one interesting position on the careers website. I have 10+ years of experience in different areas (mostly distributed systems). Feel free to pm me if you are a hiring manager #Airbnb
If you’re a product engineer, then come here for the money and because you are excited by the mission, but not for interesting work or ownership. We are a design-driven company and aren’t solving groundbreaking engineering problems. As an engineer, you’ll get paid really well to do what you’re told by your PM and designer. If you’re ok with that, then come on over! Most people plan on getting their 4 year grants vested and then bouncing to a real engineering organization. Just depends on your incentives
How about infra? I really like the eng challenges and scale at FB. I like airbnb mission but don't find the eng work exciting
Infra engineers do seem a lot more excited about the work. But again, we’re just trying to build modern infra, not pushing the envelope and breaking new ground. We really don’t have much in the way of “new” engineering problems to solve. It’s unfortunate because we actually could take on big engineering problems if we weren’t afraid to move into more logistical sides of the business, but we tend to shy away from those harder problems that can’t be solved with a standard CRUD app (at least based on what’s visible to me in my little corner of the company). This might be getting better and it’s just too soon for me to see. We’ve had some much-needed shakeups in eng leadership in the past year and have hired outstanding people to take over engineering leadership.
Lol
