I’m currently employed but looking for new opportunities. In order to maximize interviews I’ve updated my LinkedIn profile and it’s suggesting I switch my status to “let recruiters know I’m open”. I’m wary that this might backfire since my company recently got acquired, so the steps LinkedIn claims to take to ensure my company doesn’t know might not work. Has anyone gotten an interview through LinkedIn and was there a significant increase in opportunities by switching the status?
It does work
You should always set it to "open"
Yes, last 2 jobs were through LinkedIn. I applied through LinkedIn for one job and the second job was a recruiter reached out to me. I never set the status to open.
One question I forgot to ask, are InMails sent by the actual recruiter or are they bots? Just noticing one I received was at 4am
They are actual recruiters, but inmail may have a template. Your recruiter might just have been in another time zone.
There is literally no reason to be paranoid. If your employer knows you're looking, if they care at all they'll try to push for you to get a raise to keep you. Unless you're in a terrible work environment, software developers are not commodity employees. We're expensive to recruit and retain. Unless you're absolutely terrible at your job, the ball is in your court.
All of my jobs offers (10) and interviews (~20) since 2014 came from LinkedIn
If anyone asks, just say you forgot to switch it off and don't use LinkedIn that much
Nobody in your company would care. No need to be paranoid on this. Mine is open too even with my resume on it and attracts lot of attention.
