I don't have a LinkedIn profile due to a stalker ex that I had to get a restraining order against. That was 6 yr ago, but I'm still fearful of him retaliating. I have always felt left out of making connections on that network but just don't want crazy ex finding out where I work. Just curious, does anyone out there also not have a LinkedIn? And any advice for my situation? Should I just suck it up and go on it anyway? #fomo
If you want opportunities to find you, you should use LinkedIn. Don't just have a profile, but have it optimized.
Question should be when was the last time you checked your LinkedIn profile. Many people create a profile out of sheer curiosity or some new social network. I have a Twitter account that I only saw the day I created it.
Use the block feature
Insecurity like what Trump?
People say use block, but you can circumvent that by creating a different account, using a friend's account, or using a search engine. I would suggest using an alias / nickname they don't know about. And don't connect to people your ex knows. No profile picture either.
An alias would be a good idea but wouldn't that make it difficult to connect with others since they would know my real name and not the alias?
you can send messages with connection requests, explaining who you are
I hate LinkedIn but it's pretty easy to block someone and as other people mentioned it's really helpful in getting yourself out there for recruiters...my ex did find my boyfriend though almost two years after the fact.
Who would stalk after 6 years??
Can never be too sure! Said ex was a crazy psychopath after all..
There are so many psychos in this world. Hope you can get out of it and your ex stays in hospital.
Can't imagine the fear you would have and what you have gone through. I pray for you and hope you no longer have to worry about this ex. Join in big tech if you can as they will have better protection for you. Was your ex in tech?
Can big tech really offer that sense of security? Ex was in finance
No, we can't. There's lots of security people at our offices, but don't let that fool you. People that know what they are doing can get in. The security is there to stop the obvious and have someone there at off hours. And the worry isn't them knowing where you work, it's where you live, the daily routines you have that exposes points to exploit. If I was dealing with that problem I would move far away and hope they are too lazy and distance not worth the effort for them to go through.
Damn lol

Does he have a profile? Create one, then block him. It's been 6 years, he probably doesn't care anyways. No linkedin = much less validity to you as a prospect and a drastically smaller number of recruiter contacts.
