With everyone catching up in streaming, would you still stay at Netflix or join a real engineering company? TC: 450k
Real engineering company? Netflix engineering is rock solid! Oh I guess you are referring to Albertsons as the “real” engineering company.
What is less real? 😂
Joining Albertson's
Netflix isn’t a “real” engineering company?
Okay, think of it this way, if Netflix stops existing, what will be the impact of it? Yeah, you'll loose some good shows, but that's it, your life does not stop like when google or slack servers go down, you would be able to have internet, food, water, entertainment, transportation, job (well, given you don't work for Netflix)... Netflix is a Entertainment company and that's that. Now that almost every cable network is catching up in streaming and other big players getting ready, what does Netflix offer that others don't? That's how you define a real engineering company by their 'actual' contribution, I think separating engineering from entertainment should be fairly obvious. NASA, Google, Tesla, etc are engineering company, Netflix is entertainment company. Period.
The same can be said about both Facebook and Slack though. There’s a billion Slack competitors, and most would say Facebook is an engineering company. On the contrary, Tesla could disappear tomorrow and everyone would still have Leafs and Priuses, and NASA hasn’t done anything notable in the last 10 years (relative to their past).
So you got rejected by Netflix?
Why leaving?? I’m trying to get in!
The Office 😕

Are you a VP at Disney?
"real engineering company" Not even "TC or GTFO", just GTFO... 😂
Do you want to do real engineering or stream videos for the rest of your life knowing the company you work for is in deep shit.
Well. I do think there are fewer and fewer challenges for Netflix. Externally and internally. Since early 2016 when Netflix launched globally, all we have done is raising price and creating more originals. And Netflix doesn't need to change the strategy next 5 yrs either. That's what light year ahead means. Traditional studios are now running for survivals. Fox and Warner got acquired. Disney and Comcast are now launching their also runs that will kill their own linear TV businesses. For me personally, I can just watch NFLX stock skyrockets and rest and vest. Real engineering or not, that's beside the point. I want to be in a company that's dominating or will dominate. Because you may be a real engineer, and you don't matter.
TC!?!?
