Anyone here went from Intel to Apple? I have the opportunity to go but concerned I might not enjoy the move to Bay Area and Apple (currently in OR). Anyone here that made the move? Can you share your experience. Work culture, WLB, people, secrecy, opportunities for growth... Money offered is -50k more, but I’m not chasing TC Thanks
Why are u not chasing TC
Not ready to sacrifice happiness for cash.
50k more is a pay cut for OR to SF.
HW? Intel Oregon is in its death throes, you should get regardless of TC.
Coming from a washing machine guy.
And the TV guy, and the phone guy, and the display guy and the watch guy and the whatever electronics guy 😂
Lots of NSG folks went to apple though they were from Folsom or SC.
i recently switched..apple is very similar to intel..so far the inly difference i have seen is that apple has projects..so more work..intel you can kick back and relax..i would say, make the move
I wouldn’t make the move, if money isn’t what you’re chasing. Then don’t do it. 50K isn’t enough. The WLB is pretty shitty here, culture is toxic and 100% around money. Bay Area is too crowded, so many homeless people, lots of gang activity and losing its touch in terms of quality of life.
If you are not chasing TC, what are you chasing? I move down from Intel OR to Intel SC, no regrets at all because the work is much more engaging and fun.
It depends on the team you are in. Intel OR is the biggest Intel site and Intel's research headquarters.
Apple has started in Portland, poaching from Intel. so why move to SF when you can get paid more in Portland itself.
Apple Portland is pretty small, doing just a few things. System validation and physical design last I heard.
Intel still is the only company that hires large number of engineers with above market pay for the area. Amazon, google, Apple have too small of a presence, and are in niche fields.
I wouldn’t move from OR to Bay Area. It feels like moving from United States to India or China literally. The cost of living is higher and you don’t get anything for it. If you like CA look at SoCal.
