I am sick and tired of waiting in GC queue (EB2) for the last 7-8 years. Given this is elections year, it's hard to assess what will happen to S386 rule. I am thinking to sell the house and move back to Pune. Has anyone recently moved back to India and can share your experience ? Or Are you thinking about it ? May be we can meet up somewhere here in the bay area and discuss options. #h1b #eb2 #gc
I am moving back on feb 24th after 10 yrs in US
Why?
Well multiple reasons , GC queue , Parents aging etc .
One of my college friend moved back to Bangalore 2yrs back, another colleague moved a year back .... Both are not planning to come back as of now ... but they were here for 3-4 years so can't tell if they really got used to American lifestyle
Traffic is Bangalore is one of the biggest reason.
Where do you live in USA? Jin yang??
How much money will you need to go back to India for good and live comfortable investing it.
Around a million USD.
My number is enough to never have to start a mortgage within 15 minutes of most likely places to work. E.g. Rs 4 cr if you wanna work in BKC in Mumbai P.S. The only people who I know can do this before 30-33 yrs or age are Amazon folks who joined when the stock was 500 ish and slogged it out until now.
2 Mil US$ +.5 Mil reserve --------------------- 90+ percentile home in South India excluding Mumbai: 600K BMW X1/ Similar: 60k Second smaller car: 40k Balance 1.3 Mil @ 7% would get 91k USD / 60 lakhs INR per annum. That will again be sufficient for 90+ percentile expenditure - Typical expenditure of 10+ YoE in FAANG & equivalents in India. The 0.5 Mil reserve is for surprise medical bills, kids' college, car replacement after 10 years etc. Normally people find it difficult to retire and sit idle ... You can add some gainful employment in India to the mix ... There are options that pay about 20 lakhs INR per annum that allow you enough WLB.. if you factor that, your corpus needs also will come down.. likewise, being fine with less expensive lifestyle.
Problem is getting to $2.5M for a non-FAANG person would easily take him/her to age 40. Your kids would already be ~10 years by then and you'd have a hard time convincing them to move back to India.
How to save $2.5M by the age of 40? I would love to do that.
FYI Pune has a growing Amazon office with some teams from Bangalore moved there.
