A recruiter contacted me asking if I'm interested in applying for a position at Palantir. According to Glassdoor it's a cool place to work. What do you guys think?
No way. I thought my company was creepy until Palantir was created haha.
Care to elaborate?
I’ve worked here for a number of years. It’s a great place to see and learn about nearly every vertical. Pick any problem domain or social issue in gov/commercial, we’re likely there helping out. Almost everyone I’ve worked with here is sharp and cares about some end cause. I’d *cofound a company with almost anyone here. *originally a typo
why would you “confound” a company??? “cause surprise or confusion in (someone), especially by acting against their expectations.”
@Salesforce You must be fun at parties
Responding to other comments on this thread: there are a number of techies who don’t like working with gov orgs. Most negative commentary against us is of that form. What people at Palantir would likely say: working to support liberal democratic governments is a net good. Calling it creepy makes for great press, but avoiding this work as an absolute puts democratic governments and citizen safety at risk. An unfortunate side of the gov work is that the successes can’t be shared, and failures make the front page. If we could share successes in this forum the conversation would be much different. Working here definitely doesn’t mean working in gov (we have a huge commercial business), but it means believing that the gov work is a net social good.
Working for the greater good?
I’d actually love to know how to even get an interview at Palantir, preferably in marketing or BD. I’ve heard great things about the quality of people. Any helpful tips?
I definitely enjoy my work at Palantir and wouldn't consider moving anywhere else right now. We have some pretty cool infrastructure projects in particular (both in backend and frontend), as well a bunch of other interesting problems and getting to work closely with many of the worlds largest companies. As others have mentioned, a lot of the negativity in the media (both present and past) is about the gov side of the business (and is often completely wrong). There's a lot more to the company than just that, so if you're uncomfortable working with government orgs directly then there's still other things to do.
It's a massive cult
