Has anyone here appealed Pivot successfully? Do you have tips you can share? Thanks to all for productive conversation.
Yes. Best advice is to take your time on the appeal doc. Counter each point made in manager feedback with data. Also, including additional testimonials can be helpful to support your case point- 1 or 2 should be fine if they are from close contacts and genuine. The doc is as much an opportunity to make your point as to prove that you can succeed at Amazon given the opportunity.
You don’t lose anything by appealing. If you are able to prove with data you don’t belong in Pivot, then it’s worth investing your time. Keep in mind that If the result of the appealing is not favorable to you, you will be able to choose to stay in Pivot or leave the company. I would say go for it :)
I was successful in my appeal last month. The advice given to me was to take ownership and acknowledge what’s legitimate and provide as much tangible data for opposing claims and anything else that supports yours. Being vocally self critical, not throwing yourself under the bus but better than trying to deny everything and placing blame and making excuses... so if you can provide explanation and more context to the pivot doc, you’re in good shape. The appeals committee only have what’s given to them and what the other person( your manager) says. So you have pieces to the puzzle too, for them to put this together in your favor, then share what you can and be a guide rather a defendant. Help them understand the situation. I don’t recommend lying but carefully choose words that help your cause. At the end of the day if you can negate or explain the claims of the pivot doc and you know it to be true, then you should be fine.
Thanks, did they call you back after your manager spoke?
Yes- the CA debriefs with panel, immediately following, you should be contacted with decision. That was my experience anyway
I was on a panel, the call back in for the employee a second time was optional by the panel. We choose to do it to get clarification on two items. It was very brief and the CA asked the questions that we agreed on.
Wow, did that callback change your decision, would you say? Was the appeal approved?
No the call back didn't change my opinion. The appeal went the employee's way but I voted against the employee as I didn't believe they were following the leadership principles. Like another poster also mentioned, they played the blame game instead taking an objective view of the situation. In my experience with under performance issues, there are usually things both the manager and the employee could have done better to avoid the situation. Pushing the blame completely to the other party is a sign of immaturity that demonstrates a lack of ownership and being vocally self critical.
Do you have good data to backup your appeal? I was once in Pip due to my teamates reviews lol, right when i started here (political shit) but my manager saw the bullshit so he appealed it for me.
How can Manager be not in alignment and still you get into pivot.
