I’ve set myself a new goal to get into Apple or Google. I’ve had a Google recruiter reach out to me in the past but never been in contact with Apple. Can a designer from Google, or Apple please give me some feedback on my résumé before I start submitting any apps? I’ll be applying for product/UX design roles. The absolute dream would be to join the Apple industrial design team, but I hear that’s near impossible...
Can you clarify? You said you want to join product/UX but then mention an ID role at Apple. Those two role types are completely different from each other and require drastically different skill sets. Which one are you going for?
Thanks for the reply! Realistically product design. I studied ID in undergrad and would love to transition back into it, at a top tech company, if given the opportunity. I don’t think the boundaries between the two disciplines have to be so distinct. (An acquaintance from school now goes by “Hardware UX Designer” at Google 🙃.) Though for Apple, you’re probably right... They’ll want more of a specialist.
All kinds of non-sense being spoken in here. Blind has become horse-shit.
Can you please elaborate?
Apple is not the elite of the elite, anymore. AirBnB, Instagram & Google, are. However, even Google is going slightly downhill at this very moment. "Product Designer" is not the right term for a User Experience designer, or interaction designer. A product designer is more akin to hardware or industrial design. A user experience designer designs experiences, both digital and not. An interaction designer usually deals specifically with UI and behaviors of digital applications. Companies do not want specialists. They want T-shaped individuals with multiple skills: deep in one area, less in others (but still at least intermediate in the others.) Also, the TC's I'm seeing on Blind are so obviously inflated and full of shit, I can hardly take it seriously anymore. Not to mention, San Francisco is such a bubble, it's sickening. People here do not live in the real world. Expectations of new grads who have ZERO real working experience expecting 300k TC out the gate is absolutely absurd.
Thanks this was a super enlightening reply. It’s true, people do boast all over the place here about their high TCs, but I try to use it as motivation to do and achieve better. (So many people achieve high TC straight out of school in finance/law/med, and I like to think it’s our turn — as innovators to push companies to pay us what we’re truly worth as well.)
Agreed, @257jdx!

Agreed & understood! Any tips on how to get in that group? If you’re a designer, mind if I pm you for résumé feedback?
I’m not a designer, so I wouldn’t be able to help. Just trying to give some perspective 😉 I admire your ambition to be among the best though!
