Hello! Looking into entry level Hardware positions in the area of batteries as I have previous internship experience in Texas Instruments based battery systems. Currently not in a hardware role. Graduating in May with BS in Electrical Engineering. Senior design project is autonomous robot using computer vision. Also doing a drone obstacle avoidance project with LIDAR + SLAM. Just wondering about what to expect for the interview and expectations to get entry level without previous FAANG internship. #apple #hardware #engineer #referral #interview
Since you have been shortlisted for an interview, don't worry that you don't have a faang level internship. Also don't get discouraged and switch to software , you have a long way ahead and it pays off . They would ask you more questions on your projects, previous internship and the work you did. Be sure you know the all project details you have worked on and have good explanation on your methods. Also if you have strong analog and digital concepts that would be great. For a new grad they won't expect you to be a " know it all" . Just have a strong base and prepare your own resume and all the key words in your resume. Even if they ask some questions you haven't worked on, try to relate that with whatever knowledge you have and answer. If you are totally new to that concept, say that your haven't worked on it and it's acceptable. All the best
Apple appreciates people from TI/ADI etc. Especially with a shortage of HW people with good electrical fundamentals. Focus on basic stuff like RC circuits, basic Opamp circuit config and you should be fine. The initial screening call will give you a better idea of what they are looking for. If it is IC design, you will get transistor level questions too. Don't worry about knowing everything about batteries and focus on explaining and knowing your TI internship better.
2nd this nail your EE fundamentals
You are early in career. How you learn is waaaay more important than what you know. I hate smartass know it all’s and frankly will avoid them like the plague when hiring. Just show how you have thought through problems, communicated and drove results. You’ll be fine.
I’m looking for entry level positions as well in hardware!
If I were interviewing you I’d expect you to be able to clearly articulate what you’ve learned from your projects, and answer some technical questions about why you made certain decisions. The most important thing to focus on is to show what you learned, the approach you took, and how you solved any problems. Leadership and business acumen are other bonus points if you thought about and can present those findings or thoughts. I also ask some technical questions to baseline fundamentals, but those are not as important as to how you prepared for the interview, and how you think and react to unplanned questions. I’m also still learning how to improve interviewing. Just be humble and think about how you would want to show an interviewer what you’ve learned so far and what you want to learn more of in the future. If you have a good or bad experience in the interview process, post about it. Both sides can learn something.

It’s almost impossible to get a position in hardware with no exp and just a Bachelors, especially at top companies like Apple. Even if you do, your comp will be low because you won’t have many competing offers and the hw just pays less. Since you already know CV and autonomous driving etc I’d suggest that you just leetcode and get into SWE positions.
Not everyone wants to go into the grinding machine writing and maintaining a piece of code that is drop in the ocean.
True, but the TC is easily 3x higher for companies in comparable tiers as their hw counterparts. Also much better wlb (even FB/Amazon has way better wlb than hw) and faster career progression. I have worked in both HW and SW. My TC went from 100k to 400k in 3 years after the switch. Both work exp were in tier1 companies in their industry.
