Are there any benefits difference? What to expect as refreshers at that level?

You can lead a project even being an ICT4, but I’d say to be at ICT5, you definitely need to lead projects. And being a team lead doesn’t mean having direct reports.

I am ICT5 and lead projects but I also led projects as ICT4. To get to ICT5 you need to lead big initiatives / projects that have high visibility so you technically have to do that as ICT4

Wow,you are not just a top performer at blind but at Apple too 👍🏻

Make sense. I thought ICT5 is equivalent to staff engineer, whereas ICT4 is about sr software engineer. How easy is to get to ICT5 from ICT4? Do you see trying during interview for that position?

ICT4 has a broad TC range, so it covers high end of sr swe up to low end staff engineer. In most orgs, it’s *very* hard for a hiring manager to bring anyone in as a 5, because success at that level depends as much on your ability to leverage Apple’s culture as it does technical skills. Not many people that come in at 5 meet expectations, which screws their org, bc someone better can’t get promoted. Difficulty getting to 5 can very by org, and you will need support of your manager to get put on the right projects. I’ve heard it’s easier to get to 5 in Siri than in SWE or HWE, but ymmv.
