Hi,
Does anyone know the policy and statistics of Apple promotion process?
What does it take to get promoted? and what are the chances of getting promoted?
It's entirely up to your manager and I guess his ability to convince his manager. Afaik there's no formal process like at Google with a promotion packet and committee. So basically a very ad hoc process mostly up to the whims of your boss. Some managers promote frequently while others barely do it all. There's not really much statistics available, but at Apple there's really just ICT2, ICT3, ICT4, ICT5. A lot of new grads now start at ICT3 and making ICT5 is very hard and needs VP approval, so ultimately unless you go the management route where I think there are more levels, most ICs will only go ICT3 to 4, which takes on avg 2-4 years.

Hello Tim_c00k, I might be up for promotion. Is VP truly involved in approval of ICT5? You are not referring to SVP but VP right ?
I think VP does have to at least rubber stamp it. Most of the discussion/consensus will be at the Director level.
