Got message on LinkedIn from a recruiter for a system engineer position within the enterprise sales team at Apple. Anyone have any exposure to that role or ideas what comp would be? Im at Facebook less than a year and not incredibly happy atm.
What makes you unhappy at FB? I am considering the opposite transition. :)
It depends on your team org. For me at least communication is terrible. Everything is over chat or workplace (aka fb for work). We’re often shooting from the hip in the spirit of “moving fast”. Internal tooling stinks. Poor communication between xfn partners
Apple is a disorganised mess. Great money. Solid employment. But 10 year old technologies, and a lack of information cross pollination.
I wouldn't put it that strongly, but there is some of that...
Well, I'm thinking WebObjects, Java (of course), puppet, perl to name but a few of the antiquated technologies they use. But yeah, my experience is mine alone. YMMV.
Enterprise sales at Apple is laughable at best. We don’t design or market our products with enterprise in mind. We’ve been losing market share pretty bad over the years with google. FFS we’ve to yet figure out how can we market iPad as a viable alternative to education sector who has chrome books as their first choice. School Administrators hate us because we don’t have a way to effectively enforce profiles and policies(if that device is being shared). Our education incentives are crap too. Moreover the guys in sales teams are more used car-sales guys than technically knowledgeable who can’t communicate or pitch technology products. Lastly they are mostly in Austin. Do you really want to join a dying breed ? If you really want to be in Technology sales then I’d recommend looking at Google Compute, Azure, AWS Solution Sales or look at your workplace product but please first earn your stripes as an engineer.
I am not sure about targets and bonus structure but base comp might be around 80k afaik
Thanks for the response! This role isn’t in Austin and might be to beef up the technical knowledge of the team. Feeling really out of place as a woman over 30 at fb.
What do you do at fb?
