Coming from a much more conservative industry, my attire was dress slacks and a button down shirt at minimum - no exception. I’ve never worked in tech but am aware of the more casual nature of the industry with mixed reviews based on where exactly you’re at. I’ve recently been hired at Apple and will be visiting the Cupertino campus in a few months but don’t want to look like an idiot in my conservative outfits or go too far the other way and look like a schlub. My wardrobe absolutely needs to be updated and was hoping for some recommendations. TC - 205k YOE - 7
You can wear whatever you want, whether that’s button down with slacks or jeans and a hoodies. That’s the beauty of being in tech company. Congrats on your new offer Op!
I hear ya, but being so new I wanted to just make sure I blend in for now.
Watch the Pirates of Silicon Valley movie where Steve Jobs gives a hard time to an interview candidate who shows up wearing a tie
Just don't be naked
From my experience at Amazon (I’d imagine all the other younger-ish big tech companies are similar) I’ve seen the full gambit. When the weather is warm, I enjoy shorts and a t shirt in the office. Colder wetter months, I’ll wear pants (of any kind) and a shirt. If you’re in a more business role, you’ll probably see more people who dress business casual more frequently, but that’s just their personal preference, and you’ll still see others more casual. I’ve seen a guy wear sweat pants everyday (I wouldn’t recommend going this casual, just to avoid potential judgements from others).
Thanks for the recommendation. I definitely want to be on the conservative side of comfort, businessy, and casual - I want my outfit to be the last people notice.
Black jeans, black T-shirt then.
Suites and tie might be too much but shirts are normal
You can even come in your nightgown and no one will care. Everyone is extremely politically correct here.
Dress like Steve Jobs. Including the glasses and male pattern baldness. Look like you own the place, and you will someday.
Dress for the job you want. Not the one you you have.
As long as you don’t show up in your underwear
Your over thinking it. Apple generally embraces individualism. Stand out!
I don’t have an individualist sense of style when it comes to clothes. I’ll stand out in my way, outfits aren’t how I do it
