Apple ict4 to ict5 promotion for new hire

HR says I will be hired at higher end of ict4 level and will be promoted to ict5 in 1-2 years based on performance. Can I believe them? or stress to get ict5 now itself (which seems not that easy)?

    Thanks for the feedback. How do I deal with HR in this case? Why are they giving false impression? May be involve hiring manager in the discussion?

    ICT5 is hard to get. I am working on it now (15+ of experience, top reviews consistently)... ICT6 is legendary (but I know 1 so it exists ...)

    Op , if you are ICT5 material , rest asssured you will be promoted to that level. You will have to a pat above your peers and will have to have great impact . In many ways it’s better if you come in as ict4 so when you get promoted you get double the RSU refreshers . Also salary changes way more than 10% without promotions . I came in at low end of ict4 and my base salary has jumped by 50% in 4 years , and very healthy yearly rsu refreshers.

      Base comp bumps are nice - but the real deal is in the rsu refreshers.. At Apple when you get promoted you get your standard rsu for your level plus rsu refresher for the level you are promoted at . Plus rsu refreshers are yearly.

    They can’t promise this to you. ICT5 is difficult to get in most orgs (IST is a big exception here).

    Talk with the hiring manager. The manger will promote, not HR. The IC4/5 defaults based on the years of your relevant experience. 4/5 is also relative to your peers. Leave this to the hiring manager, focus on your compensation to hit the spot on the offer. If you somehow negotiate into an IC5 and your IC5 peers are way above your level then you will be in trouble as you are expected to perform on that level.
