Apple software quality
I use many apple products and really enjoy their design. Yet, some of the software products are truly annoying. Examples are Safari browser on Mac and Apple maps on IPhone. Especially Safari on Mac is just trash. What do ya’all think ?
My issue is more with how buggy their SW has gotten over the past few years; definitely seems like they care more about hitting deadlines and pushing out quantity as opposed to guaranteeing quality
This is exactly how it goes. We’ve had a few releases now where the focus was supposed to be on quality and performance, but the execs always end up cramming in their pet features and quality takes a back seat. I have a ridiculous backlog of bugs I know are bad, and I have fixes in mind for, but just never have the time to get to them.
Yea I’m not surprised by it, just disappointed since Apple used to be a leader in quality from an outsiders perspective
What’s bad about Safari on Mac? I love it. It has the best auto fill (e.g contacts, passwords, credit cards), syncs tabs well with iOS, great search autocomplete, Reader mode, Offline Reading List, minimalistic UI that is most fitting for MacOS, lots of anti tracking/fingerprinting technology, and is generally pretty snappy for me.
I literally grow rage inside when my mouse ever so lightly caresses the left side of the screen then a huge sidebar drawer slides out to take up half my fucking screen. And to make things worse is there is just the right amount of delay that I’ve already moved my hands back to my keyboard away from my trackpad/mouse. There’s no way to turn it off. I have never once ever used the damn thing and I hate it with a passion.
Also the lack the extensions. Like the new tab screen with favorites. I can’t customize it like I can with chrome. But that’s apple, no customizations. I just want to change the icon size and supply my own thumbnails for the sites.

My opinion fwiw. Apple is not a software company its a design company. The only good software they ever built was macos 15 yrs ago and thats just because it came from bsd and there s no other commercial unix system competitor. Everything else is just a nice UI with mediocre functionality. Safari? Next. Facetime? Next. Apple Maps? Next.
So true , they do actually only have Mac OX which is great and all the other software products are just some crappy mediocre products.

I like the fact that the affirmative answer goes along with the negative statement in this poll.
Maps is absolute garbage. It’s always playing catch up, and even when there is feature parity on paper, Apple’s implementation is less functional and buggier. But what’s wrong with safari? It works pretty well for me. Not going to switch to any company that has a vested interest in tracking my browsing history, but how’s Firefox these days? Am I missing out on something?
