Apple vs Intuit

I have 2 offers in hand. 1) Systems Software Developer at Apple Cupertino - (Software Power Team) 2) Software Engineer 2 at Intuit San Diego (Consumer Group). The pay at Apple is much much better than Intuit. But from JD, it feels that the work at Intuit would be better than Apple. In the past I have worked at Intuit, so I know about Intuit and it's work culture. Can anyone please tell about the quality of work at Software Power Team in Apple and How good is the internal movement policy there? Also which company should I join?

I mean I’m biased but this seems like a no brainer... did you aspire to grow up and build online tax software?

If possible, can you please tell me about the quality of work at Software Power Team?

Honestly, I would rather join the better team than the better company.

Several of my friends worked in SD before going to The Bay to work for places like Apple and Google. While they made more, and had better weight on their resumes they did miss the times we had in SD and they paid a lot more to live in SF and surrounding areas. So in the end it’s actually not as simple as the 1st two replies make it out to be. Not just tax software, they also have Mint. :) Figure out what you want in life. Two very different scenes. Intuit offered me a gig and it actually paid more than Apple and was more flexible WFH+leave early when needed. I ended up turning it down because I had to move. One of my buddies works at Intuit now and is absolutely loving it. He’s never been happier in a corporate situation and we both have a lot of experience at different companies.

If you can say more about where in consumer group, I can offer you my thoughts. There’s variety within the consumer group, so it’s hard to give general advice about what they’re offering you. DMs are open. San Diego, though, imagine that. It’s like being in this industry without most of the BS of the Bay Area. Less traffic, more chill, etc.

Depends on what are your priorities are right now. And what would make you happy. Work/location/TC wise .

Go Apple

Microsoft Engpsks OP Dec 1, 2019

The TC comparison is : Apple: 135k salary, 30k joining bonus, 90k RSU vesting every 6 months at 12.5% rate, and relocation assistance dependent on location Intuit: 120k salary, 10k joining bonus, 50k RSU vesting at 25% first year and then 6.25% every quarter, 10k lump sum relocation

Also if any Apple employee could tell me about the quality of work at Software Power Team and how is the internal movement policy within teams?

Apple Viwb52 Dec 1, 2019

I can’t speak for that team in particular, but within Apple, the standard for moving between teams tends to be closer to a full interview, unless you know the hiring manager and/or people on the team. Generally, you talk to a couple of hiring managers on the side, so things are lined up, tell your manager that you’re interviewing internally, and then tell the hiring managers to line things up and interview. It’s not difficult if you have a good network, or if you are social and make connections while you’re on your current team. But, if you’re not, then it’s basically like getting a new job externally.
