Apple vs. Tesla: Which one has worse WLB

I’m in the final interview stages of an analytics role for both. Both companies are notorious for their work life balance. Hoping for some input on which one is worse.

Hopefully not Tesla because I’ll be interning there. But I feel like that’s the common thing to say on here

Tesla for sure worse WLB and lower pay. Many of my co workers left to work at Apple, google, etc

How long did they stay at Tesla for?

Cisco top-dawg Feb 8, 2020

You stay at Tesla because you believe Elon is a DOG!

Apple has like 500 different teams across different orgs with wildly different culture and WLB across them. Generalizing them is absolutely stupid.

Apple Icml2017 Feb 8, 2020

I have worked at Apple for 6+ years and my work life balance has been quite good. It totally depends on the org/team at Apple or as such any company. I have heard WLB is bad in some hardware teams in Apple though I don’t have any firsthand experience.

Cisco top-dawg Feb 8, 2020

Yeah but Apple = 9-5 at desk everyday not knowing a thing outside your direct work

Apple RoidRage Feb 8, 2020

Top-dawg, you don't know how Apple works. In any product facing team you have to work a lot with other orgs and teams.

Choose Apple if you got the offer, no brainer. Also curious why are you leaving Pinterest? I heard they pay top💰and much sane workplace

Pinterest buttwhy? OP Feb 8, 2020

I’m okay with my pay but not super happy though. I did not negotiate well enough. It definitely is a very sane and human place to work at. Not a fan of the long commute though. I’m just exploring my options.

DS at Pinterest now? Current tc and yoe?

I worked at Apple and Tesla. The team I’m on at Apple has similar WLB to Tesla. This is mainly due to factory (diff time zone) I enjoyed working at Tesla more because it was smaller so my contributions affected the entire company’s products whereas Apple is much more mature. So, my contributions affects Apple at a much smaller scale. At Tesla I felt like part of the mission. At Apple I’m part of a small bubble and my focus is on that one product (and Apple has hundreds of products) That being said, I like Apple.

This is what polls are for.

Pinterest buttwhy? OP Feb 8, 2020

I would rather talk to people with first hand experience rather than limiting the thread to a biased poll with people who have never worked in either.
