Anyone know how Apple handles employees from the company they acquired after the deal closes? Assuming mass layoffs of course but wondering what that looks like in terms of timeline, severance and integration of people are kept. Any Beats ppl have a story to tell? Any info greatly appreciated.
A lot of the Beats people sucked, from what I heard. It depends on whether your skills are redundant and how good you are compared to the person who does your equivalent job at Apple. If you have some special skills or knowledge, they might keep you doing what you are doing. Usually Apple will try to “repurpose” you or make you want to quit to avoid the appearance of laying people off, IMO.
Thank you, definitely appreciate the reply.
Many of the Beats people had the option to work in the Cupertino office but left because the commute was too long. A few opted to stay. I wouldn't say they "sucked", but they do bring in another type of culture. I've seen other acquisitions where people left pretty quickly because they did not like the Apple environment as opposed to a start up. I've seen people who thought it was absolutely awesome to be acquired and working for Apple. So, ymmv.
Makes sense, thank you!
My group in Intel just got acquired. How was your acquisition experience? They haven't told us who or on what basis they will hire people.
As far as I know, layoffs are minimal. If the teams are being integrated the employees are given an opportunity to move to Apple Cupertino, in case of Beats most of the team stayed in LA
Thanks so much for this info
