Joined Applied Materials DDP 6 months back and absolutely hate it. Ineffective and inefficient meetings Micromanagement Meetings with agenda and 200 people logged in and only 2-3 yapping away No diversity whatsoever No assimilation and training plan whatsoever Seems like a dead end career here Extreme high attrition rate , everyone on group is less than 2 years old TC 210k, PhD with 7 years experience. Any advice ? How to jump ship ? I’m ok paying back sign on bonus etc - hate my life here .
Yes. 6 months back . Hardware/process pay is much lesser than software or I’ve been lowballed all along :-( 210 is base and cash bonus . I don’t know stock refresh yet.
Ah. Ok. Didnt know Amat is that bad. I just heard that amat process work is a bit@&$. 996 it is. You have a high base, i dont think it is low ball.
I’m 3 YOE and PhD and am at 170k base + 🥜 it stock purchase plan and bonus for optics related work at a laser company. Similar physics background as a lot of Amat people. Though I love my job so maybe not equivalent beyond pay.
The TC is pretty high compared to most of people in Amat with the same level
E5 grade level? I’m surprised they didn’t give you RSUs when you joined. Some engineers go to 🍎 or Facebook for more TC. Or switch to software but you would be mostly starting over.

Starting over would suck. What a waste of all that leaning and skill.
Any suggestions/what to study etc on how to switch to apple or Facebook ? I have a fab process background at lam / phd / masters . Too old to switch to software perhaps :-)

DDP is much easier to jump the ship, just ask your apple & facebook friends to refer

Wow same to me I also recently joined at Applied materials and I am looking for new opportunities. This place is so much micromanaging and political. They don’t care for high level goal but they only think how to shine their spot. I also thought about my sign on bonus but it’s okay to pay back too I need better job to keep career development in more positive environment especially no micromanaging manger

Did you leave Lam recently? You regret now? phd with 7 yoe, why so low TC?
