I got an offer from Amazon as an applied scientist (L5) for a tc of about 320 in NY. Currently datascientist at Bloomberg with tc about 125. I have PhD plus 2 years of experience. I originally searched because I wasn't happy with managers but new managers are better. I've heard amazon teams are hit or miss. Not sure if I should roll the dice for higher pay at Amazon or stay at Bloomberg where it's kind of comfortable and try to switch teams. My long term goal would be to save money and move from NY. I'd like to do more SWE roles. Recap: Amazon offer: 165 base / 135, 105 bonus / 175 rsu Bloomberg: 125
You should ask your hiring manager about the team, including what’s the projects in charge, what’s the most important task for AS2, etc. I like being an AS2 in my team because we don’t own a service (meaning that we don’t do oncall) and develop open source projects for new features and publishing papers. As a PhD I don’t feel much difference compare to research labs.
If you like your job, present your offer to your manager and ask him to match it. If they do it, they truly value you.

Congrats on the great offer. I don't have any insight for you unfortunately, but I'm surprised Bloomberg pays so low given your ability to get that offer from Amazon.
Thanks, I wasn't expecting that kind of offer honestly. Leetcode and lp interview question study actually work apparently
