So my Google new grad application was put on the back-burner for 5 months and they finally gotten around to it. The issue is I already accepted another offer 4 months ago and I'm not sure if it's still worth going through the trouble of prepping/leetcoding again. I heard Google tend to low-ball people nowadays anyways. Current offer (accepted) Microsoft Redmond: 110k + 150k/3.5 years stock + 55k signing bonus. It's a stable team with high visibility and an interesting tech stack. I also have a good relationship with the manager, skip and cvp, and don't want to burn the bridge. Google L3 concerns: - TC ?? I have a feeling it will be less than my current offer with better refresher - host matching. I'm graduating in May this year. I have a feeling all the good teams are not hiring anymore (?) What should I do?
For people saying go to interview, what's your reasoning?
Get practice and you might get a better offer. I have literally never turned down an interview invite in my life. Inb3 rtards go “hurr durr wastinf company resources”, yeah poor 800 billion dollar company, how dare you waste their resources? You know you literally waste more resources ( as a percentage of overall capital) by using roads in Polands than you do interviewing with google.
Keep in mind if you do get an offer now it's good for one year. Not a bad idea to keep your options open IMO.
Do not go to that interview! What you have is pretty solid! “Skip interview and enjoy life”
Third option I forgot to add to the poll: "Go to Interview without prep and enjoy free trip to Cali" lol
Don't go to interview without prep. Hiring committee sees all previous interview feedback as well. Also, recruiters might see interview outcome and if entire interview performance was very shitty, they might hesitate to call you later. Also, you'll feel bad after a bad interview experience. If you go, go with a very good prep, even if you don't want to take the job.
Good point. If I straight up decline the interview, would this also reflect badly next time I'll apply?
I thought they closed new grad applications for 2020 already?
No idea. I applied back in September-ish. Maybe they got new headcounts at the start of the year.
hmmm google left out so many candidates passed hc because no more headcount at the end of last year.
I think your chance of getting a good career is much higher in Microsoft than Google. In Google, once you get to L5, it becomes really hard to go up any further. I think you might as well enjoy Microsoft for a few years at least, work hard, and build a strong foundation for your career. IMHO: The projects in Google are not as good as the work in Microsoft.
Suggestions for good teams/ projects? I'd like to make the move. Azure? Bing?
Sorry I myself am not that familiar with Microsoft! In the end it is all about getting a good manager. Anything in Azure is basically hyper-growth and likely to be more stressful than not.
At Google they have L4 and L5 people sweeping floors. Skip interview and enjoy life. It is never a good idea to compete for the most coveted job on Earth because the pay and the challenge can suck they literally have 1.3 million applicants per year and so they can offer them s*** positions and people will say Yes! YES!
I like your analogy on sweeping floors. Google is such a weird company that L3-L5s basically do the same work (at least in my org). This is not the case in other companies I have worked for before.
Stay at Microsoft. Your CEO is solid. Good portfolio and you like your boss. That’s everything
Bingo!
You could chill at MSFT and if it doesn’t work out, just contact that G recruiter later on.
Offer is valid for one year. Won’t be a bad thing to have in your pocket while at msft. I hope some of this new grad headcount would come back around to me 😄.
what is on-target perf bonus from MS? How much stock vests in year1/2/3/3.5?
10% target. Stock vested at 25% at 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 year Stock refreshers are pretty bad tho and my signing is split in 2 at 0 and 1 year
So its 186 TC year 1 if i calculated right. Google new grad is 184.9K with no competing offers. so you should probably stay where u are.
