I try interviewing Amazon a year ago but didn’t pass the phone screen. Then a few months ago a recruiter approached me asking me to apply for SDE2. She sent me a link for 2 hour online assessment. I did it and next morning she said I did well and would like to move me to the next step which is the recruiter herself is going to ask some technical and behavior questions over phone. I scheduled a time with her and she didn’t call me at that time. She said she forgot and we rescheduled another call. Right before the day she sent me a message saying the position has been closed and there is no more next step. I then turned to my friend in Amazon to apply through referral. It has been three weeks and no news. Maybe the previous recruiter marked me as applied recently so I was passed. My interview experience with Amazon has been very inconsistent and their recruiting process seems very decentralized. Now I don’t know how and where I can reapply. Is it possible to at least get a phone screen opportunity based on my online assessment recently ? Or there is nothing I can do if the recruiter decides to skip me?

Similar thing happened to me with a new grad position. They said the position was filled. Applying to 20 positions on their website yielded nothing. Then I saw an AWS director's linkedin post saying he was hiring. Cold emailed him and he set me up with an interview with a manager. The whole process took a while but I landed an offer.
Great advice!
