I found out this past Monday I had been approved by Google HC for L3 SWE role. About 20 minutes after this I got an email from Cisco rejecting me at resume screen stage. I'm bringing this up not to shit on Cisco, but just so that people out there know that being rejected by any company doesn't really mean all that much. If I had received that email from Cisco in a different context, I might have taken it to mean that I was a shitty programmer and not good enough to work in this industry. All it really meant is that my background was not what they were looking for. It said nothing about me as a programmer, and certainly nothing about me as a person. Keep the faith and good things will happen 😀
Well fuck Cisco then.
When you need some motivation, read the story of Jack Ma. http://www.businessinsider.com/alibaba-founder-jack-ma-on-rejection-2015-2
That guy had nothing to lose.
Thx brah
Thanks for the post..really need this kind of motivation at this time
Cisco's recruitment is a joke. I was a top performer working there for a couple of years. Left job for studies. Was rejected for internship as well as phone screen for full-time. Phone screen wasn't even tough and went well. But got rejected.
I expected this post to be a rant about Cisco, but you put it well. Shows your maturity. Good luck!
We're all here, we can still make it a rant on Cisco. The thread is still an open canvas.
Sorry I was referring to OP.
Thanks for the inspiration. But let's be honest. This thread is partially about shitting on Cisco.
Tbh, my first reaction on getting that email was lol, fuck cisco. My second thought a little bit later was that it was a reminder not to have a big head and recognize the part that luck and timing played in getting me to where I am now.
And Cisco deserves every bit of it, also being honest. This place is a joke.
Congrats on the Google offer. Usually a recruiter (and in many cases HM too) spends < 10s reading a CV. Microsoft recruiters spend ~6s per resume. Getting Google offer is big, so Cisco missed out.
Interviews are very subjective. I got rejected (whether at resume or phone screen) by LinkedIn, Mathworks, IBM, ThoughWork, and some other that I don't even remember the name, but got accepted by Amazon and Google. So never let a rejection disappoint you, nor let it define your level.
Lol I received FLAG offers, but was rejected by Microsoft. Interview decisions aren’t all objective.
What's a "FLAG" offer? Never heard of that term before.
Fb, LinkedIn, Amazon, google
