Many AS roles interview mostly PhD candidates, especially at L5+. As someone else said many of the rounds will be the same as a standard SDE interview, but there will also be interviews with AS people who will ask you about your work and subject matter knowledge (e.g a round might be Machine Learning Breath/Depth)

Look at the role description of DS, RS and AS on the inside.amazon page.
    1. DS is a generalist role who is expected to do hypothesis testing, create generalized ML model, Knows SQL queries and an analytical tool or programming language like Python, R etc. Coding is not required from DS.
    2. RS is a more defined and specific role. They are scientists specialized in specific field like Neural nets, NLP, vision etc. They are expected to write research papers in their specific area of expertise. Again coding is not required from RS but they need to know atleast some analytical tool/programming language.
    3. AS is a RS who can also write production level code. The L5 AS meets L5 science bar but L4 coding bar.

    • A question, for the AS role, does the coding interview has to be in Java? The recruiter from the advertising group insists that’s the case instead of python. Could it be specific to that function?

I thought DS weren’t required to know SQL. I know a ton converted from BIEs but I was under the impression that it’s not something they test for.
