What kind of services exist for going from mid tier to high tier

There are lots of epic bootcamps that are great for going from 80k to 200k very quickly.

What services exist for taking a more middle of the pack career to the next level in terms of technical skills and soft skills

I see more than a few yahoos coming in externally as managers with crazy 700k offers. Similarly to the lower divisions, tech companies often undervalues training and promoting of internal talent and overvalues external talent.

Similarly to how someone just getting started can crush out the LC to add 100-200k to their salary, what are the further ways to game the system if you’ve already done the LC and initial salary bump? For several years now, i’ve watched external candidates that are less qualified than me or similarly qualified as me take positions i’ve wanted, already done work for, and expressed explicit interest in. (One difference is they have had a PhD, and I do not). Time to get a new strategy! Asking for advice!

    Not sure, but I disagree that LC is “gaming the system”. Solving leetcode-style problems is a genuinely difficult skill to master that is deserving of the salaries paid. Similarly, I highly doubt these companies are just throwing away good money on managers who are gaming the system. Why not just apply for mgmt positions externally?

      Just from the small interaction here, you don’t seem like the type of person that would be able to emotionally tolerate the demands of management for a long period of time, even if you were good at the mechanics. Not trying to insult you (and I could be wrong). From my experience, the main difficulty of mgmt is being accountable for things you have no control over, having people unfairly judge you, constantly handling incoming requests from idiots and negotiating with them, and dealing with stupid politics and BS that has little to do with engineering. Very, very, different from sitting at your computer, getting into the zone, and cranking out code. The reason I say you may not be able to handle it is your emphasis on meritocracy. Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m the same way. I learned from experience that mgmt was not for me, no matter how much it pays.

      Thanks for the candid feedback. I’m actually a technical manager now and enjoy it quite a bit. I do have an ideal for meritocracy you nailed that. But I also like to play it where it lies.

    Why not just do what those people you describe are doing and leave? Part of the comp boost is for the uncertainty of a new position. But 11 yoe and Google on your resume means everything is at least open to you. The kids in bootcamps can barely get their resume looked at.
