Are there regularly homeless camps along the Burke Gilmore to Ballard? Do you find a lot of cockroaches or mice in apartments there? Is it safe walking about at 9 pm ? Would I need a car to live in those places? Are they good places for singles? Is it safe to go along the Burke Gilmore from downtown at 8 pm?
I would say so. There seem to be a lot more (pretty!) single women in that area versus say Capitol Hill according to bumble.
And Tinder too
Ballard and Fremont are great and mostly residential and very safe. Yes there are some places where people camp out but you'll notice they are there all the time and if that makes you uncomfortable later at night just avoid that area then. The residential and business(restaurant and bars) areas are safe at night. In Ballard that's market/Ballard ave. In Fremont that's around 35th and Fremont Ave. Cleanliness of an apartment is going to depend on how much you're willing to pay and how closely you inspect before signing- same as anywhere
They camp along the bike trail which I'd be using to get back sometimes at night which I wouldn't feel so safe doing.
Look in to public transit too- the 40 goes right to Fremont and Ballard
Single woman in Ballard. Love it so far. Feel free to pm me if you need more info. Pretty safe to walk at night in downtown since it’s restaurant area. I wouldn’t recommend to go to bike trail at night, since you might be the only person there.
Do you bike? At what time does it become deserted? When I was biking during the middle of the day one time I saw many homeless people camped along it and it felt unsafe. So I'm thinking Fremont might be safer in terms of getting there.
I don’t bike. But I think most places close to water are the same. Green lake is safe but you occasionally heard homeless people attack someone in the evening
I work in Fremont - and am female - and if I were single, I’d live there. Lots of fun restaurants and bars and proximity to the uni as well as great running trails make it a great place to live. There are occasional and some regular homeless people but none that are “bothersome.” The above OP is right - what you pay will determine cleanliness. There are many nice and new complexes you might like or private places to rent. I’d add Wallingford to the list, too, as it’s a nice area.
You want to live in ballard, you will like it more than Fremont but yes very safe. Overall seattle is very safe ....and walkable
Downtown is definitely not very safe at night.
My concern is the bike trail to Ballard doesn't seem very safe.
Living in Ballard and Fremont is as good as it gets. West Seattle is nicer, but it’s separated from everything (which is why it’s nice)
What everyone said. Be prepared to pay more for rent closer to the neighborhood cores (urban villages.) Frelard is cheaper, and has a growing number of amenities. Now that there's a gate around the area under the 15th St. bridge, there are far fewer people experiencing homelessness.
Fewer people experiencing homelessness? What a jackass way of putting it.
If you think these policies don't reduce homelessness look at cities that don't do that stuff like SF. We don't want to be SF. Unfortunately they are some crazies on Seattle council.
Both safe from a city standpoint. I would be more looking at what type of vibe you want. Seattle has different pockets of neighborhoods that offer different bar vibes, night life, day activities etc.

Are you from the US? I only ask as I have never read someone asking about cockroaches and mice in Seattle... Burke Gilman is very populated when commuting.
Those things are a real concern in San Francisco
