I am an Indian citizen working in US and looking for a possible mix of investments in both the countries. How do I find financial advisors who specialize in both and will they be worth it ? TC: 180 , savings 4K/month, net worth 0
No. Avoid fees. Buy index funds. Take advantage of tax savings with 401k if you don’t mind your money being tied up. Basically you don’t have enough finances to justify it yet.
Might make sense to get one if net worth is $10m+. For now, start by investing in index funds and your 401k.
You don't need an investment advisor if all to want to do is buy stocks. Do as others suggested an just go with Vanguard. A financial advisor can help you with more complicated things like tax strategy or setting up trusts or diversifying a large position in your employer's stock through swaps, without incurring taxes. DM me and I can ping you the name of someone who does that.
Thanks for offering to share the information but I think as you and most others have suggested. I'll do a combination of index and robo/wealthfront for a while and probably look at an advisor once I'm above 100k net worth
Not worth it, use a robo advisor like betterment. If you want to supplement with specific Indian Index funds get a Robinhood account to trade with.
Are there any good Indian index funds? Last I checked all had pretty high fees
You only need advisors when you have a lot of money.. Think millions. For your case you just need to manage it yourself
Good luck with the PFICs and FBARs.
No need for financial advisor as a first step. Just open a Robinhood or TD account for free and buy stocks and ETFs.
You want to drive? No need to get somebody to teach you any basic driving. As a first step, rent a cheap car and drive around.
