My manager gave me something for holidays and I felt uncomfortable accepting it, especially since I don't know if others got this or not. I wrote a thank you email but still feeling uncomfortable. Is this common?#companyculture
Rule of thumb is only report it if he / she went to the effort of making eye contact during the greeting....
Are we talking a relevant book or jar of home made jam, or are we talking diamond jewelry and an evening gown?
What was the gift?
OP, you need to tell us what the gift is so we can tell you if it's inappropriate or if you're just a whiny little a-hole
Yea it's a matter if your manager gave you condoms or a happy holiday card lol, one of those is an HR report while the other one is not.
Yeah, I'd report my manager for not being eco-friendly and giving me some useless holiday card.
It's a gift card for a store. Worth 150$.
This is common for my team and the manager bills it to their yearly budget. Was there any indication that it might not be appropriate? If not, no big deal.
Sounds like you have other issues with your manager and you’re using the gift as a scapegoat. Report your manager for what’s really bothering you.
Hey, X, I got this gift card, and it’s an awful lot of money. Are you sure you didn’t mistype the amount or is the company bankrolling this?
$150 gift card isn’t a lot of money.
You hand out $150 gift cards to colleagues often???
Our manager sends $100 Amazon gift card each to entire team with a thank you note every Christmas. It's a nice gesture. What's the big deal??

I don't see anything wrong with it. Unless you're the only one and it was a meaningful gift. If you're the only one and it's meaningful it may mean other connotations. Also what's the gift?
