Are most houses/townhouses in Bay area in liquefaction zones?

Aug 8, 2021 27 Comments

I am looking for townhome in Bay area. Saw disclosures on few properties. Most of them are in liquefaction zone. Are most of the properties people buying in liquefaction zones? Is any one concerned?

On another note - Any tips or suggestions for first time buyer in Bay area?

  • Don’t buy ... Mission bay, soma, rincon, marina, and many parts of east bay

Most people non native to the bay or most people in general are pretty sloppy in their research so they overlook liquefaction. Agents also don’t really tell them

Per new guidelines, most part of bay area is in liquefaction zone. Real estate agents have done an amazing job in making sure that fact does not cause fear in those buying multi million dollar houses. There’s a huge risk in going all-in in bay area. My recommendation would be that if you are buying here make sure you have a second home some place else. When the shit hits the fan, you would not want to be homeless while having a million dollar debt.

Lots of areas where there used to be water were man filled in the Bay Area. The ground there is more prone to liquefaction. That’s why in the Bay Area lots of the high liquefaction areas are actually close to water
