As a developer? What would convince you to become a co-founder?
I am SWE myself, looking for another co-founder as my co-founder bailed because the hours / efforts weren’t for him. So I’m starting up the search again. I had a few developers interested but they decided to move out of the bay or have kids lol. Also, how would you conduct your search? My current plan is jusy to stay focused on the product. once theres a product it will become easier to recruit.

Equal say in product decisions, 50/50 equity and a validated problem with a decently sized market worth solving would convince me. Even better, a personal connection to the problem.

Why do you need a doppelgänger cofounder?
I don’t. I want someone with complimentary skills. I am more of mobile / client side developer (although I have been working on the backed as I build the prototype). So someone with more backend skills would be ideal but not mandatory. In reality it’s just difficult to do on your own. There’s no one to really check your assumptions or anything. So I am looking for that as well. Ideally I’d end up with three founders including myself.
Tech cofounder is still a doppelgänger. Someone from business side would be complimentary to you

Find people's intrinsic motivation for what your comapny vision and missions are. Especially, know your own. If you don't align with your own vision intrinsically you'll fail. If you recruit others who have a disparate or absent motivation to your vision you'll fail. If you don't have your strengths, weaknesses, and blindspots figured out and thus dont recruit a cofounder to expressly be your counterweight you will fail.
