Ask for a larger raise or just find a new job?

My boss panick called me after I requested a day off (one of many this past month), thinking I was looking for other positions after a year of menial raises. He said I'm crucial for the team, and that if I wasn't happy - to please let him know. Base is on par with NYC swe salaries (I think) but I don't get any stocks/bonuses. Do I say I'm unhappy and attempt to get a larger raise? Or do I just try and find another job which provides a more well rounded compensation package. I like my job and work life balance, it's just the overall comp which is a negative for me.

Base: 140
YoE: 4
Location: NYC

The fact that your boss is asking you to tell him when you are not happy means he does not care about you rather he cares about himself. If you were crucial and your boss really appreciated your work then your compensation would have been taken care by your boss without you asking for it explicitly. Go interview and leave.

What does everyone think of asking for a raise or a salary match at an existing position?

I have this idea that as soon as you your bosses senses that you’re interviewing they’ll match the offer but instantly begin to look for your replacement.

  • My opinion is once it gets to this point you should leave. One foot is already out the door in your mind.

Both. Have them match an offer
