I am an agency recruiter in NYC that has several clients with vaccinate mandates. I’ve had several candidates get offended when I ask them their vaccination status.

Curious to hear about other company’s policies and how they broach the subject with candidates.

They have every right to be offended. No logical person wants to be mandated to take an experimental shot.

  • If the company has a mandate and the candidate is offended, seems like a good screening question? Easy signals save you time.

    • Exactly. This is no different than a requirement like “must be willing to travel 25%” and the candidate saying absolutely not I’m not willing to travel. Easy signal that they aren’t right for that role.

  • They have a right to be offended. You need to respect that. Many people cannot get the vaccine b/c of medical reasons. Instead of asking directly, try to frame the question for 3rd person point of view: Our client has a vaccine mandated - would you able be able to pass that requirements? Many companies has exceptions for vaccine based on medical conditions.

I am surprised by the Nazi's mentality of people who took vaccine against people who want to get vaccinated but do not trust the rushed vaccination.
Even inventor of mRNA(based on which vaccine is made) is not sure of rushed vaccines side effects.

Question should be asked in a different way… e.g. “Company X has a policy for all employees to be fully vaccinated in order to go to work at the office. If you were to be offered the position, would you be willing to provide evidence of vaccination in order to go to the office?”

If the office offers a remote option, the question is unnecessary. Present the options/policies to the candidate upon their acceptance and allow them to choose. No one should ever have to disclose any aspect of their medical records to be employed in a non-patient facing environment.
