I got a competitive offer for a new company and it woke me up to being pretty badly underpaid in my current role. However, I like my company and work and I like the ability I have to telework.

I am currently on a gov contract so I am not sure how asking for a raise from my company works. Any tips to leverage the offer for a raise? #governmentcontract #government #contractor

Amendment to the contract needs to be made but it’s pretty difficult to do so especially in a contract with a government.

All you gotta do is not to look too desperate. Other than that, it’s all up to 🙏🏻 good luck!

Set the frame of conversation around compensation high. It’s easier to come down from 100k to 90k with your target TC being around 90k than moving up from 90k to 100k during negotiations. Don’t ask me why but it’s been well researched by the people who are far smarter than me.

  • What do you care about the government contract? It’s irrelevant. Your employer pays you, not Uncle Sugar. Not your problem if it makes the contract unprofitable or whatever. The only leverage you have is your BATNA. So, be ready to quit or you’re just relying on Hope and Change.
