Assume a hypothetical scenario where you have a job offer with average work life culture, work life balance, and coworker relations. Assume your interest in the work is average, commute time is average, etc. So every aspect of the company is 5 out of 10 where 10 is the highest on the scale. How much less would you be willing to be paid to have amazing (10 out of 10) work life culture, work life balance (whatever that means to you) to the extent that you wake up every day glad and excited to be working with the people on your team and company.
I just resigned from a role with amazing WLB and great team. Even made friends with said team outside of work. I was already underpaid for the role but I was willing to sacrifice about 20k less for the WLB (culture company wide wasnt that great, but team was good). But my ultimate price to resign was increase in TC by about 55%, which I valued TC about 50/50 with career growth (FANG) which got me to ultimately resign.
If you don't mind me asking, what was the type / size of the company that you left with great company culture?
The company culture wasnt that good, but the WLB and team I was on was great. I stayed and took 20k less per market value due to the WLB and team. The company is about 10k employees total. Company is a hospitality company. I ultimately resigned because increase in TC by 55% and of course going to FANG would be a nice career stepping stone for growth.
This would be more meaningful if choices were percent of TC
If I could work with an entire team of focused, strategic colleagues that also were excellent and flawless at execution and also equally passionate about work, but also left work at exactly 5pm every day - I would be willing to get paid $50k less.
