At your company, for system design interviews how long so candidates have to work the problem?

I've been doing mocks and an interviewer was insisting it had to be finished in 20 mins. I thought you got 40 or so.

    40 for FB for sure, but in my experience a lot of my design interviews were 15 minutes of resume and experience questions and only 20-25 minutes for the system design

      Really depends on the company. You’ll get your schedule beforehand, so you can adjust accordingly. Same deal as normal SD except you won’t be diving into as much detail in a shorter interview after a high level system overview.

      More like 35 — in the 45 minute session there’s 5 minutes of intro/small talk and 5 minutes at the end for questions.

      There’s a big difference in success rates between candidates who have something sketched out in 20 minutes that we can dive deep into for 15 more minutes, versus someone who finishes their first draft as a buzzer-beater as time expires.
