Moving to Atlanta. Job is near 6 flags. I’d like to stay inside the loop west of I75/85 but would consider other areas. Any recommendations in the best area to buy single family home? Would like to stay under 400k.
Six Flags is near ghetto conditions. Things don't improve to the east. Look further west or north in Vinings.
Vinings is nice, easy to connect with 285
Long term trend is for Intown to appreciate and outside the perimeter to depreciate over time. West side is hot if you want a townhome and not a detached.
Southwest ITP (in the perimeter) is hot right now, but it's still up-and-coming and the desirability can really change from block to block. You could get something that is adjacent to I-20 and have a reasonable commute. West midtown is also doing well, is close to your work, and it probably has a better restaurant/bar scene than SW atlanta. If you can get something by the bellwood quarry, you'll be happy you did so once the huge park opens up (largest in Atlanta). It's not a very walkable neighborhood right now, but most neighborhoods aren't.
If you can afford 400k you'll be fine in any up and coming neighborhood in SE Atlanta. If you care about schools, safety, etc. I'd look in the druid hills area. Wherever you live, your commute will suck, so find a neighborhood you enjoy!
Why not buy near the office? Traffic in Atlanta is miserable and there are some nice homes for that price around six flags.
Not out of the question. But I’ve lived in Atlanta before and I learned that choosing a house close to current job could mean a further commute later. So thought I’d pick somewhere I want to live yet not too far from work. But if you have a specific neighborhood in mind, please share.
