Have new job for NYC hybrid or Atlanta fully remote. TC will be 600K Atl and 750k NYC. Family nearby both areas. Been living in Bay Area for some time and happy to get out. If we lived in NYC area we’d probably live in NJ, CT for lower CoL. Atlanta more likely Alpharetta/ sandy springs area (I’m very familiar with ATL , grew up there). My concerns / important aspects for deciding: 1) good schools for kids 2) long term job opportunities 3) nice home (4 bedroom home at least) 4)culture (food, art, museums 5) crappy weather all the time Where should we go?
What job is this? Lol

NJ has some of the best public schools depending on where you want to live.
I’ve heard that. We’ve considered Orange, Montclair (spelling?) though Atl also has a very good school system in the areas I mentioned.
I actually live in Montclair! The school systems are very good. For the Oranges, I would say only South Orange then West Orange. East Orange and Orange are bad areas. Also checkout Summit, Chatham, Madison and Westfield. All really good!
You’d probably make out better $$$-wise in Atlanta. But being close to NYC (lots to consider when determining specific place in the metro area) is gonna give you a lot more to do. That said, the ATL offer being fully remote makes me lean toward that option.
I think my biggest hesitancy right now is the future of remote tolerance. Would companies go back on their offer in a few years and I’d find myself having to relocate again and uproot my family if it were to change. But that could just be paranoia
I’d consider getting it in writing that that position is permanently fully remote. I would _assume_ it already is though? If they tried to go back on it I imagine there would be a class action suit lol.
Actually ATL has a better airport. Lol
Even when you consider jfk + lga + ewr?
Good school areas in NJ and CT are expensive. They got even more expensive during the pandemic. But that TC will take you a long way
That’s King’s money in Atlanta, especially in the suburban places you’re mentioning here.

Atlanta any day
Wow why? Besides money, NY is better
Relatively cheap but with all the perks of a big city. It’s becoming a tech hub with tech companies moving in for GaTech talent. Housing is becoming expensive but still way affordable compared to NYC/Bay/Seattle. Great food, nightlife, social events, malls. Weather is amazing (a bit hot). Overall just a very underrated place to live!
