I heard their management is good. Can not be worse than EM.
How does Aurora afford it? Imagine there's going to be some layoffs too, when a 600 ppl company tries to absorb a company twice it's size
When we “sold” Jump to Lime not only did Uber give them money, the employees all got shafted. Uber’s gain was a stake in Lime and the option to buy more later at a set time and price.
Aurora is probably going to run out money soon otherwise since they hasn't had new rounds for a year now. So maybe this is out of necessity. But still doesn't sound like a good idea
Uber ATG would be overvalued. They could do an acqui-hire, like the Zoox deal. Basically just buy their engineers + maybe the testing facility. But it would be a huge price cut. If they try to merge everything, including management, operations, engineering, vehicle integration and software, it will be a disaster, it will set-back Aurora 2-3 years, and possibly destroy both companies. However the deal will go ahead 😂
FTEs don't know if they'll be employed, you can say bye bye to the offer. I'm really sorry this is happening, but in all honesty I'd not join a company that has rescinded intern / FTE offers twice in a year. Don't come man and good luck.
Apply to us instead. Internship program is expanding.
Is this deal happening still?
Nothing to indicate otherwise
The real question now is will the lay-off be from ATG or Aurora side?
Man this is crazy. If ppl at Aurora are laid off then that’s bush league
Will Uber ATG engineers become Aurora employees or be given the option to transfer?
Some (many?) TBD will be offered a transfer. Those left behind can apply into core Uber. Those who don’t land anywhere get severance, which looks decent from where I’m sitting. Not going to post specifics right now though. No clue on what the Aurora transfer offers will look like.
What about the Uber elevate. Their clock seem to be ticking too.
So, how are things over at Aurora?
Curious about this as well
They’re great! Same growing pains you see at other hyper growth companies, but we’re navigating them well. Leadership is thoughtful, seems to be making the right decisions, and cares about the employees. Engineering teams are top-tier, “no jerks” is a real thing here, comp is good etc.
