Austin vs Hillsboro/Portland?

Hey, I have been working at Intel in Hillsboro, Oregon for 5 years now. We (wife n 1 yr old) are thinking of moving to Austin. From expense perspective, are these 2 places comparable?

i would blindly move if u r ready the sacrifice the beauty of PNW to a more developing place. education, opportunities are much better at a similar cost of living.

In Hillsboro, housing market is crazy right now relatively. For good school districts, can you comment the scenario in Austin?

Education? The schools are shitty in or. The best schools is OSU and that is an unranked school while UT Austin is one of the best schools in the world.

We have no state income tax and I would guess Austin COL would be much better. Depending on income/proximity there are awesome education options.

I moved from Hillsboro to Austin in 2016. Austin is becoming expensive. Property taxes are high so if you end up buying a house, it might be a wash ( since there is no state tax). PM me if you want to discuss more. Good luck!

Thanks for details. I will ping you.

I belive you should be able to find 350k-500k price range, but with 2.5~2.9% property tax rate. Expect to pay very high property tax each year. Public school district is pretty decent.

Thanks. The price range you mentioned is for new construction? If possible, can you please send me few new construction areas with good school district? I can probably get a better idea.
