My other half is British and wants to move back to the UK as his family is there and kids are missing out. I think UK is great but ultimately would like to live in Australia (no family here but great lifestyle). He's not a big fan of the sun or beach frying (neither am I) but I'm having quite a grim outlook on life in the UK being depressingly grey and worried about safety, bullying etc esp for kids. Am I being overdramatic? Have you lived in Aus and moved to the UK and couldn't be happier?
I went to school in the UK and spent 15 years in Australia and I say Australia FTW

So family wouldn't be enough to move back to UK?
That's a decision for you to make. My sister moved overseas for her hubby's family and turns out they used to see them more living in another country than when they are 50 miles apart. But that's just 1 story and they moved from hcol and lower salary to lcol and higher salary
Sorry to be dumb what's hcol and lcol?
Do Oz for a couple of years. You can always move to the UK if you don’t like it. There’re tech job in both Melbourne (incl. Square) & Sydney, but you’ll be stuck in London in the UK. Also more relaxed lifestyle in Australia for sure, and quick path to PR that you can keep forever
Thank you. I should have mentioned we are already in Australia, been here for 10 years, it's just that he's at a point where he'd like to move back and expose kids to more family there etc. I like it in Aus and unsure about UK long term. Worried if we do go they'll all want to stay and I'll want to come back to Aus..
Seems like a personal decision, this, and not about which country is nicer to live in. Relationships are often about compromises, you guys just need to communicate and find a middle ground you both like. I completely understand his side, but for all you know, he could be happy returning in a couple of years. Lots of people step out of their comfort zone for 2-3 years and return home

Strayaaaaaa all the way. I always found just the density of U.K. alone makes small things appear more intense then required.
