Automattic Compensation and Culture

What comp can I expect at Automattic? Software eng, 3 years of experience. I’d also like to know what the company culture is like. The Glassdoor reviews seem positive but most of them were written in 2018. Can anyone provide current information?

For comparison, I have 10+ years of software experience. Current TC is between 95-100K USD. The company isn’t perfect but it suits my needs for now, especially being able to work remotely.

I'm curious how Automattic factors in cost of living in TC. Would you mind sharing anything about that? :)

> I'm curious how Automattic factors in cost of living in TC. We don't really know the answer to this internally either. Compensation is a black box and there have been mixed messages both publicly and internally about what role location plays in compensation.

Not a SWE but I can speak to the culture. It’s relaxing and positive overall. I don’t know or get along with everyone but there isn’t anything so bad that I’d give up remote work with perks like this.

Culture is great but TC is crap. They used to have an edge because no one was doing remote but these days it’s unjustified. But again, truly remote and globally distributed. So like if you want to go to some islands halfway around the world and spend 3 months working from there no one will expect you to be working US hours

Are you a SWE? How’s the TC now for Senior?

You’ll get market rate salary but not like in big tech. There are no bonuses or RSUs. They don’t negotiate unless you have a competing offer.
