So I'm looking into how much it will cost me to get *dedicated* fiber optic internet with a static IP and symmetrical upload speeds for a building in midtown Manhattan. Thinking I should start with 100Mbps. I've so far only found one company that advertises rates online. For Comcast/TWC/Verizon I have to call the salespeople and I would prefer not to. Once they have your information they never stop calling. I really want to avoid that. Anyway does anyone know what's the average rate? I've accepted I have to pay a premium because it's NY Thx
Depends. For instance, my area has AT&T fiber for a special promotion of $80 per month for 1Gbps up and down. It’s amazingly fast. As long as it is available already, not too much more, but if it requires pulling fiber to you, then it will be super expensive. You will have to pay the whole installation fee. Talking to the fiber guys at AT&T, they were saying if it was on the same street, they won’t charge people, but if it ends up being across the street, they said the minimum was $8,000. If it is a business, tack on an extra 20-30% just because...
Also, 100MB is peanuts, residential fiber is 1gb symmetrical, and 10 GB NICs are commonplace in the office and with pros. What business do you run that needs internet, but it needs less than 1gb?
This guy is serious about his pron
Pilot fiber? 1Gbps probably doesn't cost much more than 100Mbps. Is the building onnet already?
Yah they do 1G for $1k a month but I'm not sure if that's the best option
Easily better than any incumbent imo
No reason to buy from incumbent (shitty peering) unless you are pushing large amount of packets to eyeballs, which you probably shouldn't do from some office Internet. I haven't heard any complaint about Pilot. Did you get a lower quote from Cogent/Zayo etc?
Cogent matched the 1G plan so to speak. I've heard it's the staple in NY so sticking to that. It also helps its fiber is already onsite ha
I would expect Cogent to undercut everyone, ask for 10G for 2k.
Check with all carriers. If you are in a building with commercial business, chances are there is a lateral cable to the demarcation. Then you are only paying for the riser to where you want it. Most fiber providers all work together and lease strands. You might get Cogent but, they might lease from Zayo . So Zayo would be cheaper in that situation. It's getting harder to find densely populated urban areas without fiber laterals to every building . When we build , we over build. If you need 2 fibers , we put in 144.
Cogent and Hurricane Electric are going to be your lowest costs-even when they use other peoples fiber-even when Cogent uses Zayo's fiber.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Get a burner phone and use a temporary email. Hard to get this kind of information from random people on blind.
